Our new All Sun Tracker 24 up and running at Fruitlands.

Click on the image to open the Tracker photo album.

As of December 3, 2011, Fruitlands is being powered by our All Sun Tracker 24 grid-tied system. Our goal is to provide 100% of our total electrical usage though the Tracker. You can "track" our Tracker online! Site ID# 1050. While enjoying your stay with us, you can know that most of our heat and hot water is produced by a wood-burning boiler from wood that we selectively cut ourselves, and that our power source is now the sun. Organic and Green Renewables!

Update July 1, 2012 - June prodcution was 900kWh. We are now producing more power than we use and are feeding the grid! Our total balance to date since December for our GMP power bill is -$158.00. We have planted a circle of sunflowers all around the base of the Tracker to celebrate.

November 2011 - Exciting news: We are installing a US-MADE 24 PV panel All Sun Tracker at the end of this month. It will be grid tied and should provide 100% of our electrical use here at Fruitlands. The installation is being done by Solartech from Sutton, VT. Our main heat is a Danish Tarm wood boiler so both our heat and electrical use will be renewable! We cut and process our own wood too!

June 2010 - We are pleased to offer our guests a new ammenity at Fruitlands: a Hotsprings Spa. This is sized for a more intimate relaxation for 2-3 people at a time. *This image is taken from the deck of the Alcott Suite looking down onto the new spa deck. Mouse over image to see the complete setting. Nothing like a good soak and hydro massage under the stars and listening to the hermit thrushes in our woods. At the moment the best in show are the lightning bugs after dark. Hundreds lighting up the sky and woods.

Meals - Many of our guests are enjoying cooking their supper over the open fire in the new fireplace and lingering into the evening watching the stars come.

We serve our Bed and Breakfast guests a family-style breakfast in our large country kitchen. We serve a vegetarian menu that often includes maple syrup and many of our fresh, organic fruits and vegetables in season. Seating is in front of a large arched window with easterly views towards Vermont's Northeast Kingdom and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Lunch & Dinner
There are several unique eating establishments within a few miles of our Central Vermont bed and breakfast. We love to share our recommendations:

~Rainbow Sweets in Marshfield, an intimate cafe and "patisserie" where Bill's conversation is almost as famous as his brioche (written up in Gourmet Magazine).
3 miles
~Bentley's Bakery and Cafe in Danville. Breakfast, lunch and specialty coffees. Super pastries! 10 miles
~Three Ponds, Local Comfort Food in West Danville. Open for breakfast and lunch, Thursday through Monday 6am to 3pm (closed Tuesday and Wednesday for now). So far our best-selling meals are the Three Ponds Breakfast (eggs, homefries, toast and choice of meat) and Roasted Root Hash (vegetarian) for breakfast- and assorted grilled sandwiches and fries for lunch. Hot coffee is always on, as well as tea, cold drinks, and we are just starting to "fire up" our creemie machine. 6 miles
~ Royal Orchid Thai Restaurant, our favorite Thai restaurant in Montpelier. 18 miles
~ NECI, the celebrated teaching restaurants of the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier. 18 miles
~
The Creamery Restaurant, Hill St., Danville "Homemade soups, ocean fresh seafood and two levels of dining, a downstairs pub atmosphere for casual dining." 10 miles
~Goodfellas in Danville, a very nice family-style dining experience. 12 miles
~
Positive Pie in Hardwick. Rooted in its beginning as an authentic Pizzeria, Positive Pie combines its old-school heritage with a new-age Vermont mindset. Our commitment to our guests is to provide a cool, contemporary, comfortable, casual - yet always stylish - urban refuge from the ordinary. 13 miles
~
Parker Pie Company in West Glover. "The Parker Pie Co. started as a small pizza shop in the back of the Lake Parker Country Store. While it is still a little pizza shop in the back of a country store, the quality of the food and the community atmosphere has turned it into a favorite eatery and pub for locals and seasonal clientele alike. The Parker Pie Co. is a foodie destination not to be missed. In addition to our famous pizza, our revolving beer menu features both Vermont brews and the best fermented beverages from around the globe." 31 miles
~And although over an hour away from Fruitlands, we have to share with you what we feel is the most exquisite dining experience in Vermont: A Single Pebble in Burlington, "Elegantly prepared gourmet food, absolutely authentic, of a quality that can't be found anywhere outside of China (or Chinatown)." 65 miles

Food Shopping
There are three great local food and general stores close by:
~Cabot Village Store, a full-service grocery store and deli with excellent take-out pizza. 2 miles
~Marshfield Village Store, an old-style general store atmosphere with a new look. Made to order pizza, groceries, hardware, fresh and local meats and produce as well as a large beverage selection. 3 miles
~Hastings Store in West Danville, offering groceries, produce and "fresh-cut" meats along with hunting/fishing licenses, Notaries Public services, and Jane's abilities as Justice of the Peace. (Get your Joe's Pond ice-out tickets!) 6 miles
